Total Steps
22 billion
Helping those living with cerebral palsy and other neurological and physical disabilities, Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA) launched STEPtember, a global health and wellness charity challenge, to support life-changing research, technology, programs and services to help people living with cerebral palsy. STEPtember challenges participants to take 10,000 steps a day from 1-30 September, contributing to this impactful charity challenge, all logged via the STEPtember App, created by District Technologies.
Challenge
As STEPtember became CPA's biggest annual fundraiser, and a nationwide charity challenge, they wanted a STEPtember app for this virtual challenge that could deliver on the following:

-
Fully integrate with their fundraising platform (Funraisin)
-
Engage their users through the campaign to form a digital community
-
Provide content and touchpoint for users to share to their network and increase donations
-
Log steps from a variety of sources, both in-app and wearable devices
-
Management of multiple campaigns across geographies and languages
Solution
CPA engaged District to produce a charity challenge app that integrated seamlessly with their web registration and fundraising platform, allowing their fundraisers a single point of login for multiple platforms. With over 25,000 teams registered users could track their challenge in their team room, see how their friends are progressing, and share content via the in-app feed and augmented reality filters. All providing multiple surprise and delight moments for the user to share their progress to raise donations. The STEPtember App was born.
Results
The latest STEPtember charity challenge saw almost a 150,000 participants clock a total of 22 billion steps and raise over $11 million for charity. STEPtember App users made up 67% of total participants and raised on average 125% more than non-app users. The STEPtember App was the number 1 downloaded fitness app in Australia for the month of September.
“Our STEPtember Charity Challenge App is looking incredible. We’re loving all activity tracking & news feed functionality. So easy to share our fundraising link & maximize our impact as participants & donors. Thank you District team, it has been great partnering with you!”
